Greater Noida is near Delhi, just 30 minutes away from Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
It was created to decongest Delhi. Managed by Greater Noida Authority and has good infrastructure and clean environment.
The city has sectors like Alpha, Beta and Gamma which have good transport and amenities. Greater Noida West was earlier called Noida Extension.
It’s a peaceful place with many houses, IT parks, shopping malls and restaurants. The climate here is very hot in summers, rainy in monsoons and cold in winters.
History of Greater Noida
In the early 1980’s the Indian government saw that Delhi was growing too fast. To avoid problems they planned new areas nearby. They created Gurgaon in Haryana and Noida in Uttar Pradesh first.
But Noida too got filled up soon due to rapid population growth. So the Uttar Pradesh government decided to develop Greater Noida as an extension of Noida. This new city 25 km away from Noida was to be world class with better planning.
Greater Noida started developing in 1990’s. It covers 380 square kilometers and has 124 villages. Greater Noida Authority is managing the development. City is connected to Agra by the 6 lane Yamuna Expressway.
Greater Noida has become an education, business and sports hub making it a part of National Capital Region (NCR).
Geography of Greater Noida
Greater Noida is a city near Delhi and part of National Capital Region (NCR). Greater Noida West which was earlier called Noida Extension covers 3635 acres. It’s 4-5 km from Sector 121 in Noida.
The road from Sector 121 crosses Hindon River and reaches Sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 12, 16B, 16C, Techzone and Knowledge Park 5 in Greater Noida West. This area has 16 villages: Khairpur Gurjar, Shahberi, Devla, Patwari, Ghanghola, Bisrakh, Roza-Yakubpur, Haibatpur, Itaida, Aminabad, Asadallapur, Maincha and Chipyana Buzurg.
The city is very hot in summers with temperatures reaching 113°F. Monsoons bring heavy rains from mid June to mid September and winters can be very cold sometimes down to 37°F. In January thick fog can reduce visibility on the roads.
Greater Noida has a tropical savanna climate and falls under seismic zone-III which means it can have moderate earthquakes. The city also faces high risk of wind and cyclones. Overall it’s a well planned city with a mix of modern amenities and natural beauty.
Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) was formed on January 28, 1991. The Uttar Pradesh government created it to plan and develop Greater Noida.
GNIDA is the main authority to make Greater Noida a modern city with good services, good roads and advanced infrastructure. It falls under the Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department of Uttar Pradesh Government.
Greater Noida along with Noida is part of Gautam Buddha Nagar district. This district is part of Meerut Division and its headquarter is in Greater Noida.
GNIDA’s work is to ensure the area has schools, hospitals, parks and all the things to make it a good place to live. Their aim is to make Greater Noida a well planned and developed city.
